Functional Range Conditioning St. Catharines

What Is Functional Range Conditioning?

The purpose of functional range conditioning is to improve the ability of a person with an injury or disability to perform activities that are important for their quality of life. FRC can be used as part of rehabilitation, but it also has many other applications.

How Does Functional Range Conditioning Work?

In order to understand how FRC works we need to look at what happens when you exercise your muscles. When you lift weights, stretch, run on a treadmill or do any type of aerobic activity, your body uses oxygen to produce energy which then gets converted into heat. This process causes muscle cells to swell up and become bigger than normal. The larger they get, the harder they contract. As this occurs, blood flow increases to help remove waste products produced by exercising muscles.

What Is Functional Range Assessment?

When someone comes in for physical therapy in St. Catharines after suffering from an injury or illness, our first step is to assess where they are currently functioning. We use several tools such as gait analysis, strength testing, balance assessments, movement capacity, natural muscle movement, etc., to determine if there are areas of weakness or instability within the patient’s movement patterns. Once these weaknesses have been identified, we will design exercises specifically designed to strengthen those weak links so that patients can regain function and independence.

Who Benefits Most From Functional Range Conditioning? Anyone!

People benefit from FRC whether they’re recovering from surgery, rehabilitating following an accident or simply trying to maintain good health. People often think about getting injured while lifting heavy objects, running fast or doing sports like basketball or soccer. However, everyday tasks such as walking down stairs, sitting at a desk or even standing up from a chair all require strong core muscles. If you want to stay healthy, make sure you include regular FRC sessions in your daily routine.

Benefits of Functional Range Conditioning

Functional Range Conditioning, or FRC, is a trademarked system of mobility and joint control training, which, unlike many current systems, is based on scientific principles and research. Mobility, defined as the extent of controllable flexibility across articulations (flexibility plus strength), refers to the amount of USABLE motion that one possesses. Functional Range Conditioning (FRC) utilizes the latest advancements in scientific knowledge, combined with tried and tested training methods to increase one's active, usable ranges of motion by simultaneously improving articular mobility, strength/resilience, and neurological control. In essence, this invaluable, and innovative training system improves the ability to control, and move one's own body.

We offer individualized treatment plan that includes FRC alone or in conjunction with other form of treatment technique including:

1. Contemporary medical acupuncture
