Functional Movement Screen (FMS)
The Functional Movement Screen (FMS) has become one of the most widely utilized assessment systems in professional sports. Numerous teams from the NHL, NFL, MLS, NBA and MLB currently use the screen as a tool used to identify limitations or asymmetries within their athletes. The screen is not limited to athletes and has tremendous application with general population. The screen is composed of seven fundamental movement patterns which are key to functional movement quality in individuals with no current pain complaint or known musculoskeletal injury.
These movement patterns are designed to provide observable performance of basic locomotor, manipulative and stabilizing movements by placing an individual in extreme positions where weaknesses and imbalances become noticeable if appropriate mobility and motor control is not utilized.
Clinicians at NHRC utilize the FMS to help assess our patients which allows us to create rehabilitation programs specifically tailored to the particular needs of each patient.
